How to Get Fashion Tape Off Clothes (Without Damaging Fabric)
Fearless Tape is designed to remove cleanly from clothing and skin. However, factors such as fabric type, heat exposure, extended wear, or improper removal can occasionally leave behind adhesive residue.
If that happens, don't worry. There are several simple and safe ways to remove fashion tape and any remaining residue while helping protect your favorite garments.
How to Get Fashion Tape off Clothes
A. Initial Removal
There are two methods we recommend for removing fashion tape from clothes:
- Peel Off: A less gentle method, simply pinch one end of the tape strip, and slowly peel from your outfit.
- Roll Off: A safer method, peel a little edge of the tape strip up from the clothing item, then slowly roll the tape strip off of it.
When it comes to removing tape, be sure avoid pulling too quickly, as that can stress or damage the fabrics. If you have a hard time peeling, or the tape feels stuck, apply a light heat. This will help loosen the adhesive for better removal.
B. How to Remove Fashion Tape Residue from Clothing
Sometimes the tape comes off easily, but sticky residue remains behind. Fortunately, there are several ways to remove fashion tape residue safely.
-
Rubbing Alcohol
Rubbing alcohol is a simple and effective solution for removing adhesive residue from clothing. Just apply a small amount of the alcohol to a cotton ball or soft cloth, and gently dab onto the adhesive area until it begins to dissolve.
Be sure to always perform a spot test before using rubbing alcohol on any clothing.
To perform a spot test, apply a small amount of the alcohol to a hidden area of the fabric, and allow it to dry to check for any discoloration or damage before wider use.
-
White Vinegar
A quick mixture of white vinegar, warm water, and a small amount of dish soap can go a long way to helping break down adhesive residue, without having to risk any damage to your clothes.
Be sure to allow the above solution to sit for a few minutes before gently rubbing it on the adhesive area.
-
The Freezer Method
For small amounts of residue, freezing them in cold temperatures can make removal easier. There are two ways to apply the freezer method:
- Place the item in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Once the residue has hardened, gently scrape it away with your fingernail or a tool with a dull edge.
- Take an ice cube, and put it in a plastic bag. Place the bag onto the adhesive area and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. This will also harden the adhesive, and allow it to be scraped off.
Removing Residue From Delicate Fabrics
Delicate fabrics – such as silk, leather, suede, satin, and dry-clean-only – are going require extra care and attention.
Before trying any of the methods above, always be sure to perform a spot test in a hidden area. If you're unsure, consult a professional cleaner to avoid damaging the fabric.
With proper removal techniques, you can enjoy the confidence of fashion tape without worrying about residue or damage to your outfits.
